Ads won"t go away

I installed the app and after two minutes of running it, an ad for "The Lion King" on Broadway popped up and played a snippet of one of the songs quite loudly, highly inappropriate for an app that many would use to keep from awakening others. In order to eliminate the ads I made the .99 in-app purchase to get rid of them. The ads disappeared -- for 30 seconds, then they started up again, including the noisy one that played every three minutes. I re-updated the purchase and got a message that the update was successful and I could enjoy the app ad-free which I did -- for 30 seconds until the ads started up again. I deleted the app.
